More than 100 staff, students and expert advisors answered calls in a special clearing centre at the University of Greenwich today, taking applications for the Medway campus in Chatham Maritime and other campuses.
After only four hours more than 1,100 applicants had been in contact – an increase of more than a third on last year.
Dr Margaret Noble, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich says: “We have extra long opening hours today and tomorrow and advisers will be available over the weekend.
“I would certainly encourage potential students to call us to find out what their options are. We have lots of lines - so although the number of enquiries is up, we have the capacity to deal with them all.”
Dr Noble adds: “It is very pleasing that more people are looking to us for their educational future and our three campuses, which include the University of Greenwich at Medway, offer a great mix of courses coupled with outstanding facilities as well as some of the lowest tuition fees in the country.”
Popular subjects on offer at Medway include Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, Business and Sports Science as well as Pharmacy, jointly with the University of Kent. However, with some places still available for the new academic year, potential students are being advised to continue contacting the university’s hotline on 0800 005 006.
All three campuses, Greenwich, Medway and Avery Hill, will be holding special open days on Saturday, August 18, and Friday, August 24. There will be tours and a chance to talk to course tutors from 10am to 3pm on both days. Students can apply for courses if they bring their results with them. The School of Science will be staging an additional open day at the Medway campus on Wednesday, August 22, from 10am to 3pm.
Informal campus tours, with no booking required, will be available from Monday, August 20 to Thursday, August 23, offering an opportunity to see the University’s facilities. The tours run every hour between 10am and 3pm and meeting points are at the Pembroke Building reception for the Medway campus; Queen Mary Court Building enquiry desk for the Greenwich campus and the Mansion Building reception for the Avery Hill campus.
