Clearing The Way

A1429-Clearing-infoThe Clearing process can seem daunting for those involved but expert help is at hand for callers to the University of Greenwich’s free telephone hotline.

The dedicated number - 0800 005 006 – is now open with more than 100 admissions tutors, students and advisers ready for the 29,000 calls the University expects to deal with this year. Advisers will be on hand from 8.00am on results day, Thursday, August 16, to help A-Level students, who have received their grades, as well as others who are interested in starting a course from September, to find the best one available.

Callers will receive a quick decision regarding a place at one of the University’s three campuses, Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway.

Informal campus tours, with no booking required, will also be available from Monday, August 20 to Thursday, August 23 to allow prospective students a chance to see the University’s facilities. The tours run every hour between 10am and 3pm and meeting points are at the Pembroke Building reception for the Medway campus; Queen Mary Building enquiry desk for the Greenwich campus and the Mansion Building reception for the Avery Hill campus.

All three campuses will also be available to view at special open days on Saturday, August 18 and Friday, August 24. Tours and a chance to talk to course tutors will be available from 10am to 3pm on both days and students can apply for courses at the events if they bring their results with them.

Beverley Woodhams, Head of Central Recruitment, is co-ordinating the University of Greenwich Clearing Centre serving potential students across London and the South East and has helped thousands of people onto degree courses

She says: “It can be a shock when A-Level grades come back lower than expected but try and remain calm. Clearing is a well-trodden path to Higher Education with around 35,000 students finding places to study that way last year so you are in good company.

“Our admissions team is fully trained to guide you through the process and will be able to offer advice on courses as well as all aspects of student life, including finance and accommodation.”
