Greenwich is Growing: 19 New Jobs Advertised at University

Baroness Blackstone, Vice-ChancellorFor the second year running, the University of Greenwich has made a substantial investment in new academic posts. Nineteen new jobs have been advertised this week, under the strapline: “Greenwich is Growing”. The new jobs are on top of 16 new appointments made in 2006 and the move is part of an ongoing programme of improvements which also includes additional funding for equipment and buildings.

Many of the posts are at lecturer level, suitable for early career academics who are currently under-represented on the university’s staff. The new recruits will improve the university’s student-staff ratio in subjects where there is a high level of demand for places, such as Sports & Exercise Science, Computer Networking and Primary Education. The appointments will also allow the university to introduce some new subjects, such as Business in India and Journalism. The range of disciplines recruiting for staff also includes Construction, Computing & Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Health & Social Care, Criminology and Science.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Baroness (Tessa) Blackstone, says: “This round of recruitment reflects the financial stability of this university. We are making a serious attempt to bring new blood into the institution and intend to invest further in the future.

“Greenwich is a great place to work, with attractive campuses in London and Medway, spanning Europe’s largest regeneration zone, the Thames Gateway. Our priorities include enterprise, graduate employability and high quality teaching and I hope that many bright and talented people will join us to take advantage of the opportunities here and help us achieve our ambitions.”
