A group of Universities at Medway students have been busy making the news - by launching their own newspaper. The publication, called Pulp, is a first for the Medway campus - shared between Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury Christ Church universities, plus Mid-Kent College - and is aimed at all students studying there. Pulp, which will appear monthly during term-time, covers a range of topics close to the hearts of students, such as campus news, film and music reviews, sports, activities and opinion pieces.
Editor Sam Russell, who is studying Creative Writing and Journalism at the University of Kent at Medway, said the future of Pulp was entirely in students' hands. 'It's by the students, for the students. It's a chance for them to have a voice and share their views, whether serious, topical or light-hearted,' she said.
Sam was quick to praise the other members of her eight-strong editorial team, who did everything from writing the stories to taking photos and designing the pages. 'They are a fantastic bunch of people who worked night and day to get this first issue off the ground. I'm very proud to have worked with them as my first news team,' she said.
Sophie Bruschan, Activities Co-ordinator for Universities at Medway Students' Association (UMSA), also helped launch the newspaper.
Sophie said she was thrilled to see everyone's hard work come to fruition. 'The response we have had from other students has been really positive and having our own university newspaper adds a real spark to life at the campus,' she said.
The next edition of Pulp is due out at the Medway campus on 19 March.
