High Degree of Confidence in Engineering Courses
Fifteen engineering courses at the University of Greenwich at Medway have been given a major vote of confidence by The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The courses include degree programmes in mechanical, marine, electrical, electronic, software and computer systems engineering as well as a special foundation year course for students without standard qualifications wishing to train as engineers.
This recognition complements the previously accredited civil engineering suite of courses at the University of Greenwich at Medway and provides academic routes for aspiring Chartered and Incorporated Engineers across a wide range of engineering disciplines.
“Formal accreditation of these full and part time courses by the Institution recognises the outstanding contribution our School of Engineering is making to the professional development of the engineers of the future,” said Dr Stuart Ashenden, Director of Academic Planning at the University of Greenwich at Medway.
“The University of Greenwich has established and is maintaining its outstanding reputation for engineering and is meeting the needs of students from across London and the South East.”
And Dr Ashenden is predicting that more courses will be introduced in the near future to meet the growing demand for qualified engineers.
“Companies across all sectors of industry are concentrating their cutting edge research and design work in the UK and that is where top engineers are needed. They are the people who keep our industries and services running and they are essential to the economic success of all our organisations.
“And demand for all types of engineers will continue to increase in the South East with the development of the infrastructure for the Olympic Games in 2012 and, of course, the regeneration of the Thames Gateway.”
