The University of Greenwich at Medway has welcomed a new report which shows that graduates earn approximately £160,000 (or 20% and 25%) more than those with two or more A-levels, according to a new report from Universities UK.
People with degrees in Engineering – such as those on offer at the University of Greenwich at Medway – earn even more over their lifetimes, with an average premium of over £240,000.
The findings show benefits associated with HE qualifications increase as graduates get older. Graduates are more likely to be employed compared to those with the next highest qualification and are more likely to return to work following unemployment or economic inactivity.
The report also says that the cost of going to university is now less than it was, due to the re-introduction of grants for students from poorer homes, more bursaries and no need to pay fees at the start of a course, among other improvements.
Stuart Ashenden, Director of Academic Planning at the University of Greenwich at Medway, says: “This research shows that higher education is a worthwhile investment in your future which will enhance your pay packet and make you more attractive to employers. So, if you are thinking of a career in science, engineering, pharmacy, nursing, speech and language therapy or business, find out what’s on offer at your local university.”
