University Open Day Offers Chance to Quiz Lecturers

Intl_Welcome.jpgThe University of Greenwich will be opening its doors to everyone interested in starting a degree course this autumn on Saturday, August 19.

The special Open Day, showcasing all the courses and facilities now available at the university campuses at Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway, coincides with the start of Clearing – the last chance to apply for a full or part time course for the coming academic year.

The three campuses will all be open to the public from 10am to 3pm.

“Whether you have just taken your A-levels, coming to university as a mature student or upgrading your professional skills, choosing the course you want to study is very important.

“But it is essential that you also check out that the location and atmosphere of the university is right for you in order to make a success of your studies,” says Steve Wallis, University of Greenwich Head of Admissions.

“While there is a great deal of information in university guides and prospectuses, you can only find out all the details about a course, and how it meets your individual needs, by talking face to face with the lecturers and tutors.

“These are the people who are really on top of their subjects and, drawing on their experience, can offer the best advice not only about specific courses but also the careers that they can lead to.

“Plus there are lots of other issues potential students need to look at – such as managing finances, the range of support services need, and whether the course they are considering is the best option to meet their career needs and aspirations.

“Our Open Day will give all our visitors the opportunity to talk to specialists right across the board and chances to visit all the facilities, including our student accommodation.”

The university also prides itself on the speed with which it can respond to applications from potential students.

“Clearing can be a particularly difficult and uncertain time for young people, who have just received their A-level results, and their families. Talking all the options through with our experts will really help them clarify what they need to do next.

“And we can promise that everyone deciding to apply for a University of Greenwich course, at either our Avery Hill, Medway or Greenwich campus, will be given a very quick response to their application,” says Mr Wallis.

The University of Greenwich is committed to widening access to Higher Education taking work experience into consideration as well as academic qualifications.

The university has kept its tuition fees among the lowest in the country – just £2,500 per year for an undergraduate honours degree course. Undergraduate courses in partnership with the University of Kent at Medway School of Pharmacy cost £3,000 per year.

A wide range of university bursaries to assist students, including mature students, meet the cost of their studies are available. No student taking advantage of funding through a tuition fee loan will have to start repaying their tuition fees until they are in a job and earning more than £15,000 per annum.

The University of Greenwich is a thriving community of more than 20,000 students of all ages.

The university courses are delivered through nine academic schools – Architecture & Construction, Business, Computing & Mathematical Sciences, Education & Training, Engineering, Health & Social Care, Humanities, Pharmacy (with the University of Kent), and Science.
