A record number of students from around the world has chosen to live and study at the University of Greenwich at Medway, with 356 new overseas students beginning their studies at its campus at Chatham Maritime this academic year.
Students have been welcomed from over 53 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Qatar and Iran, as well as European students from Greece and Cyprus. The university’s popularity in India continues to increase, with 109 Indian students beginning their studies in Medway this year, and the university named by the British Council as the second highest recruiter of Indian students in the UK.
The University of Greenwich at Medway is continuing to grow in popularity at home and overseas, with 9,588 applications received to study at the campus this year.
The university’s strength in science and engineering has been recognised by international applicants, with a large proportion of overseas students choosing to study postgraduate courses in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science and the undergraduate MPharm Pharmacy course (joint with the University of Kent).
In a reflection of the international outlook of the University of Greenwich, the Students’ Union has elected its first Indian President, Virender Choudhary, an MBA student, who will represent students at the university’s three campuses in south-east London and Kent.
Stuart Ashenden, Director of Academic Planning for the University of Greenwich at Medway says: “I am delighted that the University of Greenwich has attracted so many people from around the world to live and study in Medway. Our academic strengths in science, engineering and pharmacy are supported by the latest facilities in an historic setting, making Medway an attractive option for international students wishing to study in the UK. We are delighted at the diversity of the growing student population in Medway, and pleased to see our international graduates being recruited by local companies, who recognise that the university is producing skilled workers who will contribute to the economic growth of the region.”
