Employers from across the region gathered on the Universities at Medway campus during National Student Employment week to attract top student talent to their businesses and organisations. Thirty employers set up stall at a university jobs fair, Opportunities 06, to promote graduate jobs, part-time student vacancies, temporary work, mentoring opportunities and voluntary placements.
More than 300 students from the universities of Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury Christ Church attended the event, along with those from Mid Kent College. They heard from exhibitors including Ashfield Healthcare Ltd, Medway Direct Payments (part of Medway Council), Sunlight
Development Trust, NHS Volunteer Unit, the Historic Dockyard Chatham, the Environment Agency, Camp Leaders, Vanquis Bank, Rail Europe and Cotech Recruitment.
Yvonne Pendry, Careers Co-ordinator from the University of Greenwich at Medway, who organised the event, comments: “Students have a lot to offer employers in the region and can make a real contribution to the development of the local economy. Employers and organisations seeking volunteers welcomed the chance to target all the students on the Medway campus at a single event. Students also welcomed the opportunity to get practical experience that helps them in to graduate careers once they have their qualifications.”
