Sports and fitness

There are many opportunities for sport and fitness activities on and around the University of Greenwich. Below we list the most popular clubs and activities.

Avery Hill area

The David Fussey Building

This includes a sports hall, offering courts and equipment for a range of indoor sports, including five-a-side football, basketball, badminton, netball and volleyball. Outdoor facilities include football pitches and netball and tennis courts. Local cricket, basketball and netball teams also use the facilities throughout the year.

The Airdome

Next door to the student village on the Avery Hill Campus is the Airdome, an indoor football facility shared between the university and Charlton Athletic Football Club. The university uses the facility during the week, with special access for the student football teams at selected times at the weekend. The university sports teams also benefit from shared facilities with Blackheath Rugby Club and Dartford Judo Club, a National Centre for Excellence.

Eltham Health and Fitness Centre

Local to the Avery Hill Campus. Gym and fitness centre with a variety of fitness classes available..

Eltham Pools

Swimming pools near to the Avery Hill Campus run by the local authority. Swimming school short courses available. Eltham Hill, Eltham.

Sutcliffe Park Athletics Track

This all-weather pavilion incorporates a studio, indoor changing facilities and shower area. Coaching is available for all abilities.

Greenwich area

Arches Leisure Centre

Local leisure centre in Greenwich. Facilities include gym, fitness classes, sauna and pool.

Curlew Rowing Club

This is a well-established rowing club linked to the university's boat club. Its new boathouse is adjacent to the campus.

Greenwich Cyclists

Greenwich Cyclists is a local group that exists to encourage people to cycle. It organises bike rides and events for everyone based in Greenwich, south-east London.

Medway area

Medway Gym

For only £50 a year, students can join Medway's gym and sports hall. The gym offers a variety of cardio-vascular and resistance equipment, while the sports hall provides facilities for football, volleyball, badminton, netball and table tennis.

AMF Bowling Centre

Check out this sixteen-lane tenpin bowling centre at Pentagon Centre, Chatham.

Medway Park (formerly the Black Lion Leisure Centre)

International standard mult-sport facility close to the campus. Facilities include indoor pools, sports halls, a gym and a health and fitness suite.

Silver Blades Ice Bowl

This ice skating rink in Gillingham is open seven days a week. There's also a sports bar called Bar Blu, where you can watch sporting action on plasma screens.

The Strand Leisure Park

Another leisure facility you can try in Gillingham is Strand Lesiure Park. It has a swimming pool, crazy golf, 3-par golf course and tennis courts.
